IM BACK!!!

I know I haven't posted in almost a year but I've decided to continue posting my art on my blog. This is for the people who would like to see my art! If people would like to see it and my progress, just write a comment if you would like too and I will! Stay tuned!

You've Got Style Response

The types of behaviors that I have shown from the Apex High schools Rubric is I communicate through my art. Pretty much all of my artwork tell kind of a story through them. Being in art class with Mrs Rose has given me a voice because otherwise, I would have not been able to express my self in that way. Even just talking about it, I get a lump in my throat trying not to cry. I'm the type of person that likes to experiment with different materials and art techniques so that is exactly what I did this year. One of my stronger behaviors is I take risks when it comes to my art. For example, I planned on making a video for art for one of my serious and one day my art teacher Mrs. Rose said "hey, why not try out this contest, its worth a try" but there was like a one week deadline and i barley even started the video so I was a little rushed into it but I ended up submitting it. Even though I didn't make it I am still proud of what ive done and glad i took that risk. Anot...

Art Series #2

Image
Second Art series project was the QR code to my video I made. It is transferred onto a canvas and then I added some more black lines around the whole outside because it was just too white and i wanted to use up all the space i could. Its not the best idea I could have used but I knew I was behind on my other one so I had to improvise. Here is my second art series. I was under alot of stress these past couple of weeks, but still tried my best. Just in case you havent seen the actual video and would like to I will post it here.

Art Series Final Idea

Image
This has probably been one of the hardest art projects I have ever done. Even though the overall theme "Mental Illness" and there is among many different ideas out there to do I just could not think of one until the week it was due. I am sorry for the delay but I finally have an idea.  My idea is to take my huge canvas and in the middle in a thought bubble have "I'm not worth it", and then throughout the entire background repeated have "You are worth it". Every second writing will be written from another student/teacher/family/friend. I chose to do that because that means there is more than just one person looking out for you and willing to help a person with a mental illness.  Its to show that people with a mental disorder/illness strongly believe to them self that they are not worth it.. but in all honesty, EVERYBODY is worth it. No matter who you are, what you do in life, you ARE worth it. I did this idea all for my sister because she believe...

Response to "Appropriate Appropriation"

Image
Today my art teacher Mrs. Rose showed us her most recent blog post. Here is the link to her blog post. When she read it to the class and I heard about what that artist was doing and how much money he got, I got pretty mad. The first thing that came to my mind was "What if he did that to one of my pictures?". I would feel pretty used if he stole one of my pictures, my own pictures and shared it with tons and tons of people and him get all of the money. One thing that I would like to know is, why does he take other peoples photos, why cant he use his own?. The artists name is Richard Prince. Another reason that this artist makes me mad is that he did not even ask for permission to use those peoples Instagram photo, all he did was take a screenshot of it and enlarged it. I don't understand why he would be the one to get all the credit and money when in actual fact its not his own photo. I decided to try doing the art that Austin Kleon does. Seeing his work looked so eas...

"How do you teach your teacher a different way to teach"

So recently my art teacher Mrs. Rose has been bringing her guitar to school and has been learning how to play by students showing her chords and such. So one day last week i was watching her learn the chords and it made me feel upset a little bit. The reason why it made me feel that way is because she was making it look so easy. I've had my guitar sitting in my closet for 2 years because every time i would try and learn i would just get so frustrated and give up. But she then said to me "why don't we learn together?". This made me feel happy again because now I am learning with her. She was my motivation for me to learn, so i thank her for that.  It would be greatly appreciated if you could reply back to this question: "How do you teach your teacher a different way to teach?" Here is Mrs. Rose's blog post about this.  My opinion on that question is its very difficult to for a teacher to teach things different ways. I myself have personally st...

Who decides if you are an artist?

Something that I love most is technology. I have my phone with me 24/7 and am always on it pretty much. The way technology has evolved is crazy. Well so has the way art is shared as well. Like my art teacher Mrs. Rose has said in her recent blog post ( https://storify.com/ColleenKR/who-decides-if-you-are-an-artist ), art is now shown over social media such as Instagram, Facebook, twitter etc. You do not have to physically see the artwork now in a gallery, but over technology. How cool is that? My opinion on sharing your artwork over social media is much more effective because more and more people can view it. I think its awesome.  This question "Would you post your art on the internet or not?" gives me mixed signals because for one: I would love to share my art over the internet, but the downfall of that would be other people trying to steal your picture of your art unless you put your name on it somewhere. (copyright) I absolutely love the idea about collaborating wit...

Response to "But Is It Art?"

Image
After viewing Doug's blog post about cubism, I really wanted to try it myself. So here is my attempt! I choose to do 200 points. Just so Doug knows.. I am a student in Mrs. Roses art class. All in all I think that it is a great idea to think about.

The Art Assignment

Image
I find the art assignments videos actually really neat. At first I was thinking to myself "well that's easy, anyone can do that".. but then in the video when they said something along the lines of "its the objects YOU choose to use that makes it so special". That's where I find it pretty cool. Overall what I think about the art assignment and what they are doing is awesome. They are allowing anyone to be involved in making art videos and sending it to them or if you tag them in it and there is no due date. You can do it all on your own time and send it whenever. That's what I like. I have yet to watch more of their videos. But heres the video that my art teacher Mrs. Rose showed to my class today and this is what my opinion is on. ( here is also their website link)

#ScratchAndMixProject

My first impressions on the scratch and mix project is they artists works are very different then what you would normally think "art" is. When you ask random people "What is art?", their reply is most likely going to be painting, drawing or sculpting. But when you really read about each of these artists each of them tell a different story through art. Some even write poetry. When reading through this post from my art teacher,  http://mrsroseart.blogspot.ca/2015/04/scratchandmix.html . My opinion at first when I viewed some of the people artworks was that it was different from what I normally see. Its not just your average portrait, landscape painting and much more. It means more to them than that. That's the beauty of art.. When you see it and read their story it send different emotions that run through you. I am proud of what all these artists are showing the world.

Art Series

Image
So now that my first part to my art series is done with, its time to move onto the next project. So for my next one i have decided to go to Michael's and buy a small square canvas to put the QR code to my mental health video that I made. I have already bought a big canvas for my second idea which this small one is linked with it. I have not yet made up my mind on what i want to do with such a big canvas because I really want to use my space wisely. Maybe by having a lot of empty space on it, it could be a message to others when they see it. For now i want to incorporate the quote "If mental illness could be seen on a sufferer, maybe society wouldn't say "just get over it". I'm still trying to think of ideas to add on all the other space. Any ideas are welcome! If you havent already seen this short video thats been played on tv, please take a look at it. It really helps you see that anyone, and i mean anyone can have a mental disorder.

#BellLetsTalk

Image
So, I'm hoping that my video will raise at least a little bit awareness. Coming from a small town doesn't mean that my video wont be noticed.. I'm happy to have thought, made and finished the video which is mainly dedicated to my wonderful sister who suffers from a mental disorder. Its time to make a stand and stop the stigma. I love my sister with all my heart and she is my twin and my other half. I don't know what I would ever do without you. Keep on staying strong Victoria!! The reason for this post is to go along with my video and one day Id like Clara Hughes to respond back to me in some way to know that validation for my sister that there is help, there is more people like her out there and things will get better.

Art History Assignment (Expressionism)

Image
I decided to do my art history assignment on the movement Expressionism. The reason why I choose this is because I am the type of person to show my feeling through my artwork so I wanted to research on how it was used in the 20th century. Expressionism started in 1905. Expressionism is an intense personal art form and is a way of showing the artists feelings rather than an analysis. Paint strokes used to show expressionism is swaying, swirling, and aggravated lines to show a mood or a certain type of feeling. The whole point of expressionism is to trigger an emotional state in people who look at it. Vincent Van Gogh (1853-90) Van Gogh used form and color to convey his inner feelings. His brushstrokes were a close reflection of his feelings he painted. A famous quote said by Van Gogh was "Instead of trying to reproduce exactly what I see before me, I make more arbitrary use of color to express myself more forcefully" The main artwork that I looked at the most was ...

Mental Health Video Completed

Image
I am very happy that I was able to accomplish this video for the deadline of the TVO Short Doc Contest. The deadline is today and I am entering in soon. This is a really tough subject to talk about but I just want to thank my sister and my dad for being involved in the video, id like to thank my art teacher Mrs. Rose for encouraging me and helping me with overcoming this whole process. I'm proud of myself. I hope you enjoy the video and realize that we need to raise awareness.

Mental illness video update

Image
So far during this March break I've been working on this video. I'm extremely thrilled for the finishing product but I can't seem to put it together the way I can see it in my head.. Still need to add more and edit but it's coming alone. I also just want to say that yes in the video my sister does have a mental disorder but she is represents a bunch of them together.. She does not have all of them, and the same goes for my dad, he has a mentor disorder as well but we are acting in the video with drinking and smoking but not because I'm advertising it.. It's to show how some people cope with their mental disorder in ways that are obviously the worst idea they can make. There is help out there, you just need to speak up.

Day 1 of filming

Image
Today has been a great day of filming for my video. My lovely sister is my model throughout my entire video so here's a quick selfie of where we were, what we are using and such. We both cannot wait to finish and see the end project. I hope people will watch it.

Mental Health Awareness (video update)

Image
So I'm sitting in my room just thinking about this video I will be making and its making me really happy but also very sad at the same time. I'm happy because what I really want to do with this is raise awareness about mental health. I went on YouTube and looked up PSA's and came across a particular one that really upsets me and kind of makes you think like "wow, we do not realize how society treats people until you look at it from someone else's perspective". It just goes to show how cruel some people can be. Here is the link to the video i watched. I'm starting to film all the ideas I have for the video Ill be making. I decided to document my progress so far with what I have done. I started out using online websites to edit a film. For example i experimented with WeVideo, Powtoon and YouTube movie maker. All of those were alright to work with but I decided to use Windows Movie Maker because my sister is very familiar with it and will be able to help...

TVO: on the Road (my thoughts)

This link is to my teachers art blog about her experience going to the TVO show on the road in Thunder Bay. Please, before you read more of my thoughts and opinions, go to the link below to read more about this topic or you may not understand what my thoughts are. Thanks! https://northernartteacher.wordpress.com/2015/03/08/tvo-on-the-road-thunder-bay/ I can honestly say that I was extremely impressed and touched by Michelle Derosier 's "Walk-A-Mile Film Project". This young women has a voice that stands not only for herself  but for other people as well. While watching her video, I wanted to cry, but not in a bad way.. I wanted to cry because its a message that needs to be brought to awareness and I am very proud of what she has accomplished. The video gave me shivers towards the end. I acknowledge Michelle's courage and its amazing to see the awareness she is making.  Walk-A-Mile Film Project Trailer from Thunderstone Pictures on Vimeo . When...

3 Part Art Series Idea #2 (update)

Image
I decided to change my mind on what my first idea was going to be for my second art work which is using canvas. I was looking up quotes online about mental health and came across this one... "If mental illness could be seen on a sufferer, maybe society wouldn't say “just get over it”. This quote is beyond perfect to add into my canvas piece. My idea when I seen this was to take a picture of my sister (once I have her permission) and too have her hands wrapped around her neck but i want it to look like how this photo is except using my own person and different area. To me that means a person can not tell if an individual has a mental disorder because its all on the inside. If you were to put 100 different people together side by side and pick out the ones who have a mental disorder that would be impossible because its whats on the inside, not the outside.
